New Minimum Wage in Panama 2022

On October 29 of this year, the members of the Minimum Wage Technical Commission were sworn in, tasked with accurately assessing the current situation in the country and recommending the setting of new minimum wage rates applicable by productive sector, according to the provincial area in which they are located.

This process has concluded and, as a result, Executive Decree No. 74 of December 31, 2021, was issued and recently published, setting the new minimum wage rates applicable nationwide starting January 16, 2022.

Article 66 of the National Constitution stipulates that the Law must seek ways to adjust the minimum wage to improve the living standards of workers and their families according to the region and economic activity. The minimum wage must be set periodically, at least every two years, based on the recommendations of the National Minimum Wage Commission and by decree of the Executive Branch.
